This blog has been set up by a couple who started on the keto journey together in mid 2020. It is mainly written by George McNally, the keto pensioner of the title, but translated and maintained by Mengxue Huang.

We were aware that there is not shortage of blogs out there covering the subject of keto already. As far as we were aware though, none were covering it from the point of view of someone of realatively mature years, new to this way of eating and the keto journey in general. In this past year. taking up keto has led to some pretty drastic changes to our diet and lifestyle. For George, a three decade vegetarian, this was particularly true. After several months on the diet at the time of writing though, he feels he has experienced a remarkable improvement in general health, energy levels and contentment.

Mengxue Huang is a web designer, programmer and computer security expert from the city of Dongguan in Guangdong Province, China. Before she changed careers, she spent three years studying Chinese Traditional Medicine. She has a deep love of Chinese culture, particularly the rich history of martial arts. Mengxue is a high level practitioner of Tai Chi, winning many competitions at regional, national and even international levels.

Mengxue’s main role, as far as ketopensioner.com goes, is development and maintenance of the site; translation of the English text into Chinese; and as a sounding board for ideas and developments relating to the keto journey. These developments, and many other aspects of health and longevity, are constantly discussed around the dinner table.

George McNally

George McNally is a British citizen, former programmer, fire brigade control operator and writer who originally hails from London but now lives out in the wilds of Norfolk. For years he has been interested in diet and exercise, particularly after following several health challenges that included several back operations, seizures and a heart attack. The latter was perhaps a catalyst for wanting to examine alternatives to the low fat, high carbohydrate diet that he had followed for years beforehand.

George’s main role in ketopensioner.com is as a content creator. He also takes on the task of investigating and examinaning ideas and studies in the World of Keto. This is something of a labour of love as, for him at least, this is an endlessly fascinating area to explore. Creating blogs such as these often entails hours of reading, listening and otherwise consuming some of the often quite complex ramifications of the keto journey. To do this without an abiding love of the subject matter would be difficult indeed.

Our Mission

We believe that the high carb, low fat orthodoxy is proving to be deeply flawed. The damage in terms of obesity, type 2 diabetes and metabolic disease that started in the US has spread Worldwide. It has left sickness, disability and heartbreak in its wake. The mainstream authorities in most countries are frustratingly slow to change their dietary advice. This despite the mountain of evidence indicating that low fat is clearly not the way to go.

As responsible individuals, each of us has a choice. We can, if we wish, take no action and just wait for these governmental bodies to catch up with the science. Or, on the other hand, we can actively seek out up-to-date knowledge and information for ourselves and change accordingly. We made our choice. This blog will seek not only to explain the whys and wherefores of this choice, but also record our own journey deeper into the World of Keto.
